These are the rules Factplay’s coverage is written under. They are published so readers can hold the site to them.
Sourcing
Articles are written from primary documents. In practice that means:
- Agency releases and mission pages (NASA, ESA, ISRO, JAXA, and others)
- Regulatory filings — FCC spectrum and orbital debris filings, FAA launch and reentry licences
- Contract awards and procurement notices from the awarding body
- Published papers, including methods and figures, not just abstracts
- Company statements and, for public companies, securities filings
- Launch webcasts and official telemetry
Reporting from other outlets is consulted only after the article’s facts are established, and only to check that nothing material was missed. Where a primary source could not be obtained, the article states which secondary source it relies on.
Verification
Every number, date, and factual claim is traced to a named document, and that document is linked or cited in the article. Figures that cannot be verified against a primary source are either left out or explicitly labelled as reported rather than confirmed.
Where sources conflict, the article says so and explains the disagreement rather than picking silently.
Quotation and originality
Quotations are kept short and attributed. Factplay does not reproduce substantial portions of other publications’ work, and does not rewrite other outlets’ articles. Facts are freely reportable; another writer’s expression is not.
Corrections
Errors are corrected openly and logged. See the Corrections page for the policy and the full record.
Use of AI
Factplay uses AI tools for research assistance, drafting support, and copy-editing. Every published article is written, verified, and approved by a named human author, and every factual claim is checked against a primary source before publication. AI is not used to generate articles from other outlets’ coverage, and no article is published without human review.
Advertising and independence
Factplay carries advertising through Google AdSense. Advertisers have no role in selecting, reviewing, or approving editorial content, and no advance sight of it.
If an article ever involves a commercial relationship — sponsorship, affiliate links, gifted access, or paid travel — that relationship is disclosed at the top of the article. As of 9/8/2026, Factplay has no such relationships.
Images
Factplay uses public-domain imagery from space agencies where the licence permits, and credits every image to its source. Where an image carries usage restrictions, those are honoured. Rights queries: copyright@factplay.xyz.
Ownership
Factplay is independently owned and operated by Factplay Team. It is not owned by, funded by, or affiliated with any space agency, launch provider, or aerospace company.
